Edinburgh, UK. 12.08.2014. SLEEPING BEAUTY, devised and performed by Colette Garrigan. This is not a fairy tale but a princess’s tale. A princess from Liverpool. Born in a kingdom devastated by unemployment and famine, where the spindle has been replaced by a syringe. We are in a restaurant. The table is set. The waitress welcomes us. On the menu, a story. Artist and puppeteer Colette Garrigan tells her story using shadow theatre and object theatre. Stunningly poetic and original. ‘You are all here! Charming! Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin. It starts here, in this castle’. 'Closer to Ken Loach than to the sugary fairy tale' (Télérama). Photograph © Jane Hobson.
