27/01/12. Wolleka Village, Gondar, Ethiopia. The Falasha village of Wolleka, once home to the Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jews) is now inhabited by the Falash Mura (whose ancesters were forced or chose to convert to Christianity under pressure by Emperor Ezana), left behind after the mass emigration of the Beta Israel to Israel in the 80s and 90s. Today, a living is mainly earned by the inhabitants from pottery sales, however, the standard of craftsmanship is generally held to be in decline. Photo credit: Jane Hobson.
